A message from Keith Edwards............
Bargaining resumed on Monday June 30, 2008
with Verizon presenting the Union with their response to our comprehensive
proposal of June 16, 2008. The Company's proposal was completely and
totally UNACCEPTABLE to your Bargaining Team. On Tuesday July
1, 2008 the Union tore apart the Company's proposal with questions the
Company was unable to answer. Issues raised included Health Care and
Prescription Drug benefits. NO PROGRESS WAS MADE.
Today, CWA met again with Verizon and off the record
discussions centered around Health Care and Prescription Drug proposals.
Both committees will work on these issues separately
tonight and tomorrow and are scheduled to meet again on Monday July
7, 2008.
Please be aware the a strike authorization ballot is
being mailed out today and must be returned to this local no later than
July 14, 2008. We are recommending a "YES"
vote to show Verizon we are serious and want a contract that is acceptable
to our members.
