CWA LOCAL 1105 SAFETY AND HEALTH "THE DEMANDS OF THE SERVICE OR URGENCY OF JOB ARE NEVER SO GREAT THAT WE CANNOT TAKE THE TIME TO PERFORM OUR WORK SAFELY" IF YOU NEED HELP REGARDING ANY UNSAFE CONDITIONS AT WORK, PLEASE LET YOUR JOB STEWARD OR CHIEF KNOW IMMEDIATELY! ROBERT P. SHANNON - TIER 1 COMMITTEE MEMBER ROBERTO PEREZ - TIER 2 COMMITTEE CHAIR CWA 1105 Safety Coordinators Robert Shannon and Roberto Perez are working with CWA District 1 and Verizon to bring an ergonomics awareness program to our members for the 1st quarter of 2010. While we are hopeful that the program will be rolled out, we urge all members to be proactive about their work stations. If you are experiencing symptoms that can be related to working at an improper work station please contact the local. ERGONOMICS TRAINING ON FAST TRACK AS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THE LOCAL AND VERIZON WILL BEGIN THE TRAIN THE TRAINER PROGRAM IN MARCH. WE WILL BE PARTNERING WITH HUMAN-TECH, THE SAME FIRM THAT WAS INVOLVED ORIGINALLY IN THE PROGRAM. THIS TRAINING WILL BE GIVEN TO A SELECTED GROUP OF 1105 STEWARDS AND CHIEFS, WHO IN TURN WILL PROVIDE HANDS ON ASSISTANCE TO THE MEMBERSHIP AT THEIR WORK STATIONS. AS WE HAVE LEARNED FROM PAST EXPERIENCE, PROPER ERGONOMICS AWARENESS WILL HELP TO REDUCE REPETITIVE STRAIN INJURIES SUCH AS CARPAL TUNNEL, EYE AND NECK ISSUES TO NAME A FEW. AS WE HAVE STATED PREVIOUSLY, AND THE COMPANY SAFETY MISSION STATEMENT SAYS " THE DEMANDS OF THE SERVICE OR URGENCY OF JOB ARE NEVER SO GREAT THAT WE CANNOT TAKE THE TIME TO PERFORM OUR WORK SAFELY" IT IS THE COMPANIES RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE EQUIPMENT THAT IS ERGONOMICALLY SUITED TO EACH INDIVIDUAL MEMBER. IT IS THE COMPANIES RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX ANY EQUIPMENT THAT IS BROKEN Remember "IN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH" We have been advised by District 1 Safety Rep Micki Siegel de Hernandez that Verizon has rifd 2 of their safety staff. They continue to downsize in an area where we should be expanding the levels of coverage. We must all work towards insuring that our work sites remain safe and secure. The company obviously does not consider safety a priority, in spite of their corporate mission statement. Please report any issues related to work site safety to your shop stewards. |
